Folk Music

The term folk music originated in the 19th century as a term for musical folklore. It has
been defined in several ways; as music transmitted by word of mouth, music of the lower classes, music with no
known composer. It has been contrasted with commercial and classical styles.
Since the middle of the 20th century the term has also been used to describe a kind of popular music that is based on traditional music. This
music was performed by many popular artists, notably during the 50s and 60s era. Folk music has had a
major impact on musical history. Artists such as Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio,
Trini Lopez, The Highwaymen, Simon and Garfunkle, Judy Collins and so many more have made their mark
on folk music. I have selected 20 songs I felt had a heavy influence on the 60s decade. I hope you
enjoy this latest jukebox as we listen to what has been termed as folk music.
