One Hit Wonders
Part One
The years of 1955-1973 were considered the golden
years of Rock 'n Roll and most certainly produced some of the best
music ever recorded.
During this period of time the
most one hit wonders were recorded. What is a one hit
wonder? Most American music industry
insiders consider a song in the top forty positions of the
Billboard Hot 100 to be a hit. Thus, any performer who recorded
only one song that reached the Top 40 is, technically, a one-hit
wonder. However, the term is more generally applied to musicians
best known for only one song, meaning that some artists who fit the
above criteria are not considered one-hit wonders, while others who
do not are considered such.
There were many great recording artists
who failed to repeat their initial success and so many of their
subsequent recordings were virtually ignored by radio stations and
the record buyers. That doesn't take away the great music
that these one hit wonders provided us.
If you google one hit
wonders your results would be massive. Of course
this site is dedicated to the 60s so the list I have compiled are
only a few of the one hit wonders of the 60s decade.
In part one I have selectd 41 of some of
the best one hit wonders of the 1960s. You will not only be
able to view these selections but you can also listen to them
exclusively on The 60s Official Site's Jukebox. Be sure to
check back for Part 2 coming soon.
